What is Diabetes?

Feline diabetes occurs when cats cannot properly regulate blood sugar due to insufficient insulin or insulin resistance. Symptoms include increased thirst and urination, increased appetite with weight loss, lethargy, and weakness in hind legs. Risk factors include obesity, male cats, and age over 7 years. Diagnosis requires blood tests and urinalysis. Treatment involves insulin injections (usually twice daily), low-carb diet, weight management, and glucose monitoring. Some cats achieve remission with proper management.
