What is Arthritis / Joint Problems?

Feline arthritis causes joint pain and stiffness, affecting mobility. Signs are subtle: difficulty jumping onto furniture, reduced grooming (especially hindquarters), reluctance to use litter box, changes in temperament, sleeping more, and walking stiffly. Common in senior cats (90% over age 12). Diagnosis through physical exam and X-rays. Treatment includes pain medications (NSAIDs, opioids), joint supplements (glucosamine), weight loss if needed, environmental changes (ramps, lower litter boxes), and gentle exercise. Cats can't take many dog pain medications.
